A Little About Me

Welcome

My name is Jim - or J D Smith if you want to be formal about it - and I am a writer. I have written short stories, scripts, articles and reviews and I am currently writing my first novel. Hopefully the first of many.

I also have a weekly podcast called the Mechanical Writers Podcast in which my friend Freyja and I discuss the writing process, subjects of our personal interest and the general comings and goings of the world.

I was born in Lancashire in the North of England and discovered my love of the written word in the early 2000s, thanks to my dad's stack of '80s pulp fantasy novels and a somewhat unhealthy obsession with The Lord of the Rings.

Writing as a hobby only came into my life in my twenties thanks to a popular role-playing game involving a lot of dungeons and surprisingly few dragons. From there, short stories and folklore sprung to amuse my friends and players and finally I decided it was time to write something 'proper'.
