So it Begins....

At time of writing (9pm 14/01/2021) I have just crossed the 10k words mark on the first draft of my novel. Six months ago I came up with the rough idea for a politically realistic fantasy novel.

The outline was, in the truest sense of the word, skeletal. So over the final quarter of 2020 I schemed and plotted my way through about five different iterations of POV characters and story plans until I finally arrived at something I was vaguely happy with.

This is not to say by any means that this latest iteration will, in any way, resemble the product at the end of this process but it felt good have something to help chart a course with.

The plan (as it stands) is to try and write three books, split down into two parts each. A Trilogy of Six if you will. The first book even has a name that I will share at some point I am sure.

I have written plenty of short stories for friends DnD games or even the occasional competition piece but this book is already the longest piece of writing, fiction or non-fiction that I have ever attempted to set my will against and honestly it has been a glorious surprise to discover how easily I can output a solid number of words per day. Whether those same words are of any actual literary value is yet to be revealed but their presence is nonetheless appreciated greatly.

I think that largely concludes the first post on this as yet virgin website. A more poetic man would perhaps compare it to breaking fresh snow or setting out upon some vast uncharted journey of the soul. I am not so poetic though; so I will just say that I can only recall a brace of times that I have been so excited at the prospect of a new phase of my life.
